Turn a Chinese exam into a searchable PDF
Read English and Chinese pages together, keep the visible scan, and add selectable text.
Start with the recommended settings
Open Bilingual Ocr with language, cleanup, and layout choices already selected.
You choose the file after the tool opens.- Best for
- Exams, worksheets, notices, and study material containing English and Chinese
- Source
- A clear image or scanned PDF with complete page edges
- Main result
- Searchable PDF plus editable OCR text
When this workflow fits
Use this workflow when both scripts belong to the same document and their reading order matters. Automatic language detection keeps Chinese characters, Latin text, numbers, and punctuation in one recognition pass. The searchable PDF preserves the visible page while adding a selectable text layer, so the scan remains the authority during review.
Prepare the source
Recognition can only use detail that is present in the uploaded file. Check the source before spending time correcting avoidable OCR errors.
- 1
Scan every page upright at a consistent size. Include page numbers, question labels, answer boxes, and margin notes.
- 2
Use the original scan when possible. Re-saving a small JPEG cannot restore strokes already lost to blur or compression.
- 3
Check that simplified or traditional characters are large enough to distinguish and that faint pencil answers remain visible.
Run the workflow
Follow the sequence so recognition, structure, review, and export remain separate decisions.
- 01
Upload the complete document
Use one PDF for ordered pages or upload a clear image when the source has only one page.
- 02
Keep language detection automatic
The bilingual route detects English and Chinese together instead of forcing the entire page through one language model.
- 03
Recognize the page structure
Automatic layout handling retains the likely order of headings, questions, answers, and instructions.
- 04
Review before exporting
Compare names, marks, mathematical signs, dates, question numbers, and visually similar characters with the scan.
Review before you download
OCR output is a draft until consequential content has been compared with the source.
- Confirm that English and Chinese lines have not been separated from the question or label they belong to.
- Check proper names and uncommon characters directly against the source.
- Verify question numbers, decimal points, negative signs, fractions, and answer labels.
- Inspect low-confidence pages individually instead of accepting an average document score.
- Search the exported PDF for a known English phrase and a known Chinese phrase before relying on it.
Choose the output for the next task
Do not use a structured or editable export as proof that OCR interpreted the source correctly.
Searchable PDF
Keeps the original page appearance and adds selectable text for search, copy, and indexing.
Editable text
Best when the wording will be quoted, corrected, translated, or moved into notes.
Word document
Useful for a reviewed transcription. Choose layout-preserved output when page appearance matters.
If the result needs another pass
Retry the smallest useful source or page after correcting the likely cause.
Chinese text is missing
Confirm automatic or Chinese recognition is selected, then retry the affected page at a larger, sharper resolution.
Reading order is wrong
Review multi-column instructions and answer choices page by page, then correct the editable text rather than changing the source scan.
Symbols look plausible but differ
Compare mathematics, punctuation, and similar Han characters at source-image scale.
Settings this workflow applies
The preset travels to the tool, not the document. You can change any setting before starting OCR.
