Extract a receipt into structured JSON
Extract merchant, date, totals, tax, and line items for field-by-field review.
Start with the recommended settings
Open Invoice Receipt Ocr with language, cleanup, and layout choices already selected.
You choose the file after the tool opens.- Best for
- Receipts and simple invoices that must feed a spreadsheet, database, or accounting review
- Source
- One flat, sharp receipt or invoice image with the full document visible
- Main result
- Reviewed fields JSON and line-item CSV
When this workflow fits
This workflow separates character recognition from accounting interpretation. It proposes merchant, date, reference, currency, subtotal, tax, total, and line-item fields, but it does not validate the transaction. Every value that affects payment, reimbursement, tax, or reporting must be checked against the source and arithmetic should be recalculated independently.
Prepare the source
Recognition can only use detail that is present in the uploaded file. Check the source before spending time correcting avoidable OCR errors.
- 1
Flatten curled paper and photograph it square-on without fingers, shadows, or a patterned background.
- 2
Keep the top, bottom, and both side edges visible so totals and merchant details are not cropped.
- 3
Use a close capture that makes the smallest line-item digits readable at full size.
Run the workflow
Follow the sequence so recognition, structure, review, and export remain separate decisions.
- 01
Upload one complete receipt
A single complete capture is easier to map than several overlapping fragments.
- 02
Run document cleanup
The preset improves ordinary document contrast while retaining decimal marks and thin printed characters.
- 03
Inspect the proposed fields
Review merchant, transaction date, invoice number, tax, currency, totals, and each line item in context.
- 04
Export only after reconciliation
Download JSON for systems or CSV for rows after checking arithmetic and required fields.
Review before you download
OCR output is a draft until consequential content has been compared with the source.
- Match the merchant name, tax identifier, transaction date, and reference number to the source.
- Verify decimal separators, thousands separators, minus signs, and currency symbols.
- Recalculate subtotal, discount, tax, tips, and total independently.
- Confirm that every line-item description remains paired with its quantity and amount.
- Leave absent values blank instead of inventing a plausible field.
Choose the output for the next task
Do not use a structured or editable export as proof that OCR interpreted the source correctly.
Fields JSON
Carries reviewed document fields into an application or database without scraping the page again.
Line-item CSV
Makes quantities, descriptions, unit prices, and totals easier to inspect in rows.
Plain text
Provides a readable transcription for reference, search, or manual correction.
If the result needs another pass
Retry the smallest useful source or page after correcting the likely cause.
Totals are confused
Crop less tightly, improve contrast, and check whether discount, tax, tip, and total labels are visually aligned.
Rows shift across columns
Use the table review output and correct each cell before exporting to accounting software.
Thermal print is faint
Capture in diffuse light, increase local contrast carefully, and avoid sharpening that breaks small digits.

The preset travels to the tool, not the document. You can change any setting before starting OCR.
