When this workflow fits

Table OCR must recover both text and relationships. This workflow exposes detected cells for review before building Markdown, because a believable value in the wrong row or column is still incorrect. It works best for one focused table with clear headers and consistent alignment.

Prepare the source

Recognition can only use detail that is present in the uploaded file. Check the source before spending time correcting avoidable OCR errors.

  1. 1

Crop around one table but leave a small margin outside its outermost rows and columns.

  2. 2

Straighten the image so horizontal and vertical relationships remain clear.

  3. 3

Keep units, footnotes, legends, and multi-row headers when they explain the values.

Run the workflow

Follow the sequence so recognition, structure, review, and export remain separate decisions.

  1. 01

    Upload the table image

Use the highest-resolution original and avoid a screenshot that scales small text down.

  2. 02

    Detect rows and columns

Automatic layout analysis proposes the cell grid and places recognized text into editable cells.

  3. 03

    Review the grid

Compare headers, blank cells, merged labels, decimals, signs, and row alignment with the image.

  4. 04

    Build the Markdown

Copy or download the table only after the reviewed cells describe the intended structure.

Review before you download

OCR output is a draft until consequential content has been compared with the source.

  • Check that every column has the correct header and unit.
  • Preserve intentional blank cells rather than shifting later values left.
  • Verify decimal marks, negative signs, percentages, dates, and totals.
  • Split or repeat merged headings because Markdown does not support row spans or column spans.
  • Compare first and last rows to catch a missed border or cropped value.

Choose the output for the next task

Do not use a structured or editable export as proof that OCR interpreted the source correctly.

Markdown

Fits documentation, repositories, notes, and publishing systems that support pipe tables.

Cell data

Retains the reviewed row and column model for another structured workflow.

CSV

Works well when the next task is calculation, filtering, or spreadsheet analysis.

If the result needs another pass

Retry the smallest useful source or page after correcting the likely cause.

Columns merge together

Straighten the source, include the complete header, and retry with more visible spacing between columns.

Blank cells disappear

Restore blanks in the cell editor so later values remain under the correct heading.

A complex header will not render

Flatten merged groups into repeated or renamed column labels before copying the Markdown.
